The Chairman of the U.S. Securities and Exchange Commission (SEC), Gary Gensler, left questions about spot Ethereum ETFs unanswered.
SEC Chairman Gary Gensler gave an interview to Yahoo Finance on March 8th, Friday. In the interview, Gensler evaded questions about spot Ethereum exchange-traded funds (ETFs) and preferred to focus on the overall issues in the cryptocurrency market.
The question from the Yahoo Finance host was essentially based on whether previous decisions in securities lawsuits regarding Ethereum would set a precedent. However, Gensler’s response was to focus on “the facts and circumstances”:
I don’t want to prejudge any filing, and we have 10 filings, as you’ve mentioned. So, frankly, I’m not going to prejudge this. But to your question, we’re looking at the facts and circumstances and what we have in front of us.
Furthermore, emphasizing the serious problems in the cryptocurrency market in recent years, Gensler stated that the entire sector is “filled with abuse and fraud.”
