According to cybersecurity experts, a ransom group named Akira has collected over $40 million in ransom.
According to global investigations, Akira has targeted over 250 organizations based in North America, Europe, and Australia since March 2023, collecting approximately $42 million in ransom.
According to a research conducted in collaboration with the FBI, CISA, 3C3, and NCSC-NL, Akira infiltrates the systems of its victims through VPNs, collecting sensitive data and locking the systems.
Later, the organization demands Bitcoin as ransom to return control of the system to the victim.
Officials recommend using multi-factor authentication and filtering network traffic as precautions against such attacks.
